New Caney ISD
New Caney ISD mission is to prepare their students for the future outside of secondary schools and to prepare the district for the growing attendance of students in their district. Every year, over 1,000 new students move into the district, making New Caney ISD one of the fastest growing districts in the Houston area. The district is planning ahead for the future to adequately prepare for everything the future throws their way.
The district consists of 9 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools. Due to the fast growing population, the district has created the Facility Study Group to discuss how when and where they should build new campuses to accommodate the growing community. Their goals are to:
1. Build enough classrooms for students
2. Purchase real estate to build futures schools
3. Examine the life cycles of current schools
4. Consider a replacement schedule for schools
Besides planning and investing into new schools, New Caney ISD has also invested in Chromebooks and classroom technology. In preparation for the future, New Caney ISD will help students get more familiar with technology and learning skills, which will especially benefit students with families who aren’t able to access technology on their own. Each student between 3rd and 12th grade will be issued a Chromebook. The district has also trained their teachers in incorporating technology and real word applications in their lessons to better prepare and catch the attention of their students.
To be even more prepared for the future, New Caney ISD invests a large sum of funds into the Robust Career & Technical programs, where students will be able to gain licenses and certifications. In the 2013 – 2014 school year, 493 CTE students were able to earn industry based licenses or certifications.
For students interested in applying to colleges in the future, NCISD provides students with Gifted & Talented programs and AP programs, where 41% of NCISD high school students are enrolled, in order to experience the rigorousness of college courses and gain dual credit. They also have an early college high school where students are able to earn both an associate’s degree and a high school diploma when they graduate.
The most important investment that NCISD has made to prepare their students are hiring and retaining quality teachers. The average experience of NCISD teachers is 10 years. The district offers competitive salaries to their teachers and have just been approved to increase the salaries for the 2014-2015 budget. Teachers are also required to complete extra hours of continuing education training to be equipped for today’s classroom and prepare student for today’s society.
New Caney ISD is on a mission to prepare their students and teachers for the future through building more facilities, providing them with technological resources, and more.
